This journey started 13+ years ago. It is when our son, Adrian, 2+ year-old then, was diagnosed with Autism. My wife Wendy, and I, were lost and scared looking for answers, and nowhere to find them. Symptoms and behaviors associated with Autism were noticeable, but his pediatrician told us that “he would grow out of them.” Not satisfied with those answers, my wife and I decided that I would go back to school and research the best practices available to help our son.

This quest continued as a pursue and earned a teacher credential in special education followed by a Masters in Special Education-Autism. Our lives improved, but it was not easy. We had our failures and our victories as we learned to navigate an education system, find services, and information to help improve our son’s life. We grew and became more confident as parents, and we learned to embrace Autism. More importantly, Adrian began to show improvements in all areas of his daily life. The journey continued, our lives improved, and ten years later, after working with exceptional children in a special day classroom, the next chapter in our journey was born.

Wendy and I launched Kidscalma with the idea of reaching a wider audience outside of my classroom. To have Kidscalma as a platform that will allow us to share our personal and professional experiences and allow us to help thousands of parents like ourselves, help their exceptional children feel calm when overwhelmed, so that they can achieve more everyday.
